I hope you’re ready.
Because I’m not . . . I have the flu. And I have no choice but to assume that being sick at this point means I’ll be healthy the rest of the year. That’s how it works, right? Just lie to me.
Either way, here’s the thing: regardless of how we’re entering this year, sick or healthy, happy with how 2019 turned out or crawling our way out of a rough patch, we’re at the beginning of another chance. We have greatness we can pull from within, and no one can stop us. Read this again in June and September if you need to. It shouldn’t just apply to January . . . but, you know, that’s how the excitement of a new year works.
I’m not one for new year’s resolutions, but I fully support all efforts in trying to make positive changes. Last year I went with two mottos of the year: 1. I’m committed and 2. I’m good enough. I did well for the first half of the year, maybe more, then I dropped the ball. I . . . just . . . don’t know . . . what happened. I stayed committed to the things I’d committed to. To everything and everyone except myself. I forgot to tell myself that I was good enough pretty early on. And that’s sad.
So, as usual, I put my personal goals and passion on the back burner because I’m a mom first and because, well, who cares? Same story, different year. Looking back, however, I did have a good year and there are many things to celebrate.
The truth is it’s hard to achieve all the goals we set out to early in the year because we tend to make that list pretty long. Looking ahead, 365 days does seem like more than enough time to accomplish everything, doesn’t it?
Well, far it be it for me to ruin your dreams on day 10 of the year lol. Go ahead and write down all your goals and dreams, and if you accomplish even half of it, I consider it a victory. There’s always the following year to finish up. As long as we’re living with intention and a sense of purpose, we’re most likely to find success and fulfillment. It beats another year of procrastinating on what’s most important. Dream big and go for it.
I guess what I’m saying is:
Say yes to you in 2020.
This year, I challenge you to put yourself first. Make your passion and dreams a priority and see what happens. Don’t starve your kids or anything, but whenever possible say no to others . . . kindly, and work on your goals. Choose you and your dreams, and just:
Make yourself proud.
I loved the simplicity of choosing my mottos last year. Some people choose a phrase, a word, or have one focus. It can be anything that speaks to you. Personally, I believe in the power it brings . . . because it all comes from you. With one main goal or focus, you should see great transformation . . . at least for the first few months of the year lol, but it’s still a win, I say.
This year I’m going with a saying I’ve had on a sticky note for a while, but want to really focus on it:
I want to know what will happen if I don’t give up.
That’s it.
I know you’ve heard it before, and it’s not super detailed, but I know what it means for me and that’s what matters.
As far as one goal I’d like to choose, I’m going with the one-word thing again: learning.
Wanting to learn speaks for itself, I think. We live in a world where constant learning means you have the right to keep breathing. I like breathing. It keeps me alive. But I love learning, regardless, so it’s a win-win. Can’t wait to see which new ideas I’ll be exploring and what things I’ll know next year that I don’t know today. On that note . . .
Many best wishes for a happy, healthy, and abundant 2020 for you!
But before you go, let us know:
What’s your approach for the new year? Do you have any goals or mottos you’d like to share?
I love this and hope you really do put yourself first this year. Yes, yes, it’s so hard as a mom, and especially with younger children, but YOU are worth the effort. Seriously.
I love your motto for this year, and have had that same thing written on a Post-it ever since you told me about it. But that’s your motto for the year, and I won’t steal it. I think mine will be more like something I read (and of course can’t remember where, or I’d give credit where it’s due). But here it is:
“You can’t be the noun without doing the verb.”
I plan to grow my business and accomplish a handful of personal goals this year, but I can’t achieve any of it without putting in the time. So there you go. I’m determined. And saying yes to myself has to be a big part of that.

Such an editor type of motto to have lol – LOVE it!
I have no doubt you’ll accomplish what you set out to do, not only because I’ll be nagging you to get it done 😛 , but you’re a hard worker and definitely know how to persevere! 2020 is a good year to have a good year!!!

Hey, what can I say? I even started 2020 in January this year, if you can believe it. I hope that doesn’t screw me up for life.
